"Heavenly Hydrangea" 8" x 10" Pastel on gessoed canvas panel |
I've painted these beauties before, but now I'm trying my hand at capturing the essence of this closeup with pastel painted on a black canvas panel. I applied clear gesso on it then dug in.

Carol - Love to read your blog - amd this painting is lovely! I jave never tried this technique, but was wondering -- How would you seal something like this when it is done. - Irma - P.S. I think I met you a few years back at a art show in Elk Grove Village Library.
ReplyDeleteIrma, I have begun using a workable spray fixative on my pastels. I didn't think they would come to anything, in the beginning, but now that I'm selling them, I was forced to think about the long term preservation aspects.
ReplyDeleteWe may have met some time ago, but I don't believe I've ever been in the Elk Grove Village Library. Perhaps it was another place. Nevertheless, thank you for reading and looking at what I'm doing today. I appreciate it.
this is simply stunning.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Julie. I'm discovering new abilities every day — making this whole daily-painting gig a FUN one.
DeleteJust plain gorgeous! Such lovely colours and subtle textures, makes me want to try soft pastels.
ReplyDeleteAh, but these are hard pastels — the bad boys of the medium. Beginning to end, I use only the hard ones, and I adore them.
