Island Hopping

"Island Hopping"
5" x 7"
Oil on hardboard
It was cold and still as the sun set, but really quite lovely. There would be no moon, so this was the last hurrah for the day.

I saw this image and knew I could reproduce the colors pretty accurately, so I did.

  1. There is a novel called The Last Hurrah. Written by Edwin O'Connor. Published in 1956 and adapted as a feature film in 1958 starring Spencer Tracy. Love the painting by the way and already looking forward to your next post.

    1. P.S. I am intrigued by the subtext. The subliminal images in the sky and in the water. Fascinating. I hope you will do more along this line.

    2. I painted four little paintings yesterday, so I'll have things to post this week. Thank you for commenting and for the book recommendation.

    3. Perceptive, you are.
I was reveling in the renewed experience of painting in oil. It's why I painted four paintings. It had been about 45 days since I held a paintbrush. I managed to manipulate the tool and smeared paint in a variety of ways... to my delight. Who knows, I may be able to paint a rose again soon.
