Color basted morning like butter over a turkey. 

I've been painting, in spite of the appearance of my blog. I painted fifteen skies on one large canvas over the past several days. I used a limited palette of two reds, two blues, two yellows and white to make up this prayerful piece.

The days had been clear and the sky had been blue for a week straight. There was bound to be a day like this, and it appeared as the sun rose. Who needs weather.com when you can look out the window and see it for sure?

I liked making a sky without so much color in it. Although the next one off the easel was brilliant.

Dawn's Early Light

As a respite from the LaCrosse paintings… I offer a larger sky than I normally paint. I felt passionate about making this one and a six by six just wouldn't cut it. 

I had to handle the yellows and blues very carefully to not make green, and the purples and yellows so as to not make brown where I didn't want it. This one is quite nice in person.

Out of the Fog

Days went by without even thinking of smearing paint. I thought I was mending, but lingered in a hazy place that just didn't loosen its grip. That fog may have burned off now and I'll have clear sailing from this point on.

Here's a simple offering from an unsteady hand. I'm happy to be back to work.

Frosty Morning

It was November.  Frost had chilled autumn's remaining foliage with her prickling needles. Then Morning showed up with her heat lamp to thaw Frost's crystalline web.  

Morning skies are so much more interesting than the ones we see at noon.  I'm enjoying morning a lot more now that I am painting sky without fear.

Melancholy Morning

It was morning, one of the last lovely ones of the fall. These gals were some of the few left clinging to the picket fence. I'll miss their nodding heads.

This is one of the first pieces I've painted with the addition of a new color to my palette.  Gray of Gray is the name of the tube color. I can see the influence of it in this piece, when compared to my other roses.

Morning Light

 There's a path near where I live that winds through a woods.  It's cool on the hottest day and always peaceful, despite its proximity to motorized civilization. 


Morning Light is painted on a peachy ground with reds to dull the greens, except where springtime is meant to show.
