First Fuji

"First Fuji"
5" x 5"
Oil on hardboard
This small and lackluster Fuji looked like it had just come of age.  It was, however, white on the inside and tasty. The intriguing parts were the blossom end with its tiny fresh leaves, and the beguiling stem that extended an inch and a half from a two-inch apple.

I put the apple on this embroidered fabric for texture and line.  I also stippled the apple in its entirety—with a small, soft mop brush.  I use my tools with abandon.

I enjoy knowing that you've stopped by. Leave a comment on the blog, or e-mail me, if you're so inclined.

Marilyn's Stones, Nick's Apple

"Marilyn's Stones, Nick's Apple"
8" x 8"
Oil on canvas panel
I was given this apple to paint when the Wolf River Apple was shown without a stem.  This one had a stem, and nice markings, too.  And the rocks were placed where she knew I'd find them.  I  love being given things to add to paintings.  And their unlikely pairings make for interesting compositions.

This piece is for purchase via PayPal through me, as are all my pieces, or through a Dailypaintworks.com auction that runs for four weeks.

Thank you for my gifts, my friends.

Wolf River Apple

"Wolf River Apple"
8" x 10"
Oil on canvas panel
"It's enough for a strudel," said my host as I chose a Wolf River Apple from the basket sitting on his veranda.  "I sniffed the dimple where the stem would be.  "It's a cooking apple," he said, "don't bite into it.  Indigenous to here," he added, meaning Wisconsin. "Take another and you can make a pie."  I did.

I knew I'd be in Wisconsin over the weekend, and would bring back something to paint. This apple was it. I painted the background on Friday afternoon and the apple last night.  Amazingly, it's 16" in circumference, like a slow pitch softball.

This painting will be listed with, and for purchase through my gallery on a Dailypaintworks Auction.

Thank you for visiting today.
